I did some research on electronic portfolios for marketers, and I didn’t really find anything suitable. Most of the electronic portfolios out there are by visual designers looking to showcase their work. They were mostly gorgeous and fun to look at, but I had a hard time adapting the idea for my own work. I did manage to put together a portfolio that I’m pretty happy with, though.

I settled on SlideShare for publishing my portfolio, mainly thanks to the “LinkedIn buys SlideShare” news item posted prominently in my LinkedIn feed. I tried Google presentations, but so much of the pretty formatting from PowerPoint was lost in the translation, it just didn’t seem like the way to go.

After I was all finished, I was perusing SlideShare for more portfolios, and I happened upon the term “visual resume.” Eureka! That was really what I was looking for all along. Here are a few good examples:

Saranyan Vigraham This goes back t 2008, and was the oldest one I found. Saranyan seems like quite an innovator…

Then there was a slew of them from 2009, seemingly due to a book called Resume Zen. This is one of them, but there are many that use this same template.

Social media people seem especially fond of this format, but I found a few from people in more traditional roles, like Product Marketing.

My favorites were more recent, which may reflect on how quickly this thing goes in and out of style… Jason Quann seems to have a job similar to mine, and I’m actually kind of intrigued with his paper resume (ironic), which is alluded to on slide 4. And Charity Bengert’s visual resume is kind of lovely and artistic but also tells a great story about her and who she is.

So, if you get a chance, take a look at my portfolio. And then check back soon for my visual resume.

The Kennedy & Coe website has a page devoted to their recent ads. This one looks to be from 2010, but the 2011 ads are also very unique conceptually and visually. It’s nice to see someone step away from the stock art and put some stock in original imagery.

I’ve been meaning to overhaul my LinkedIn profile for a long time, and I finally got around to it last night. I think I have a fully fleshed-out profile now — I even hooked up this blog to my profile. So now I’ll *have* to post here, or suffer the public shame of having a dead blog hanging around…

Asking for recommendations still feels weird to me, so I don’t have any. I’ll have to get over that. (If you read this and write a recommendation for me, I promise I’ll reciprocate.)

I want to add a portfolio using the Creative Portfolio Display application on LinkedIn, but I’m still working through what goes into a portfolio for a marketing communications manager. It seemed obvious to me when I was doing the writing myself, but now I’m just not sure. I’ll do some research and report back.
